Austria legal online gambling: read the BMF concession record
Check Austria's federal online-gambling concession without confusing win2day.at with land-based casinos, provincial machine permits, foreign licences or proposed reform.

The short answer
- The BMF concession-holder page names Österreichische Lotterien GmbH, company-register number FN 54472g, for electronic lotteries on www.win2day.at through 30 September 2027.
- That record is a holder-domain-product-term join. It should not be widened to another brand, lookalike domain, group company or product.
- The BMF says paid internet gambling covered by the Gambling Act requires an Austrian concession. A concession from another EU or EEA state does not authorise supply in Austria.
- Casinos Austria's land-based casino concession and provincial permissions for gaming machines are separate records. They are not evidence that another online domain is authorised.
- A reform proposal is not current law. Recheck the official concession record and legal position before any high-risk decision.

This is one federal concession record. It does not classify sports betting, provincial machine permissions, land-based casinos, free games or promotional competitions, and it does not validate a redirected or similar-looking domain.
Start with the exact federal record
Austria's Federal Ministry of Finance publishes a concession-holder page that joins the facts needed for a bounded online-gambling check. It names Österreichische Lotterien GmbH, gives company-register number FN 54472g, identifies electronic lotteries as online gambling, points to www.win2day.at and states a term through 30 September 2027.
Each field matters. The legal entity is not the consumer brand, the domain is not a blanket permission for related sites, the product wording is not every gambling product, and the end date is not proof that every other compliance condition is satisfied today.
From question to defensible conclusion
Start with the exact federal record

A reproducible Austria domain check
A foreign EEA licence is not an Austrian concession
The BMF's gambling-monopoly FAQ says that paid games such as poker, roulette and blackjack may not be offered online in Austria without a concession under the Austrian Gambling Act. It also says a concession issued in another EU or EEA state does not authorise gambling supply in Austria.
This makes a foreign regulator badge, group licence or company registration insufficient for the Austrian question. The check still needs an Austrian authority record that connects the relevant holder, domain and product.
Keep three permission systems apart
The same BMF page also lists Casinos Austria AG for twelve land-based casinos and separately lists provincial permissions for gaming machines. Those entries have their own locations, scopes and terms. They do not add online domains to the electronic-lotteries record.
Sports betting also needs separate analysis because the BMF concession page is framed around gambling under the federal monopoly and provincial machine permissions. This guide therefore does not label a sportsbook legal or illegal from the win2day record alone.
A reproducible Austria domain check
Use the complete hostname presented to the player and preserve the date of the check. Do not begin with a marketing list of casinos and work backwards.
- Open the current BMF concession-holder page and find the electronic-lotteries entry.
- Record the exact legal holder, FN number, product wording, consumer domain and displayed term.
- Compare the full hostname with www.win2day.at; do not treat a similar name, redirect or group relationship as a match.
- Keep land-based casino and provincial gaming-machine entries in separate evidence rows.
- If the product is sports betting or falls outside the displayed electronic-lotteries scope, mark this check insufficient and use the competent current authority source for that product.
- Recheck the official source before onboarding, payment, publication or another high-risk decision; this guide is a research aid, not legal advice.

Who supervises the current concession
The BMF explains that supervision of concessioned gambling moved to Finanzamt Österreich, Special Responsibilities Office, on 1 January 2021. The BMF retains core functions including legislation, strategic decisions, international cooperation and federal concession-holder interests.
Finanzamt Österreich handles tax and regulatory supervision and the granting of concessions for casinos and federal games under the cited Gambling Act provisions. That division of work is why the publisher of the public record and the operational supervisory body should not be collapsed into one label.
Current law is not the same as proposed reform
Austria has an active reform debate, but a proposal, notification or announced future licensing model does not replace the current concession record. Until enacted rules and operative authority records say otherwise, the BMF page and current legal guidance control this guide's conclusion.
A future multi-licence model could change the holder, domain and term matrix materially. Atlas therefore treats reform as a separate Watch question and does not edit the current-law finding from a policy announcement alone.
Method, limits and next review
Atlas reopened the BMF concession-holder list, the gambling-monopoly FAQ and the supervision page on 12 October 2026. The table transcribes only the named federal online record and does not test account access, payments, geolocation, games, advertising, player protection or technical operation.
The displayed term does not guarantee continuing compliance, and absence from this single record is not by itself a conclusion about a differently regulated product. The maintenance owner is the Atlas Editorial Engine; the next planned review is 9 November 2026, or sooner if the BMF record or Austrian law changes.
