Our Methodology
Transparency is at the core of iGaming Atlas. Learn how we research, verify, and maintain our database of legal gambling operators worldwide.
Our Mission
iGaming Atlas exists to provide clear, accurate, and verifiable information about gambling regulations worldwide. The current editorial database is independent and contains no paid rankings. If affiliate relationships are introduced later, they will be labelled and kept separate from status evidence.
We believe that access to accurate regulatory information empowers users to make informed decisions and promotes a safer gambling environment.
Source Hierarchy
We prioritize official sources in a strict hierarchy to ensure accuracy:
Tier A - Primary Sources
Official regulator websites, government ministry publications, public license registers, and primary legislation.
Tier B - Secondary Sources
Official FAQs from regulators, government explanatory pages, and official datasets or APIs.
Tier C - Contextual Sources
Official advisories, public statements, enforcement notices, and regulatory press releases.
Sources We Avoid
We do not use affiliate websites, blogs without primary sources, forum posts, or news articles as primary evidence for legal status.
Status Definitions
We use a standardized system to classify legal status:
Operator holds a valid license from the jurisdiction's regulatory authority. License number or registration can be verified in official records.
The authority has published a licence revocation or states that the operator is no longer authorised in that jurisdiction.
A regulator has announced a blocking measure or opened proceedings. Provisional measures are never described as final sanctions.
An official decision or announcement identifies unlicensed activity or another regulatory infringement in the named jurisdiction.
Operator has received official authorization to operate, though the licensing framework may be new or transitioning.
Operator may offer limited services in the jurisdiction, or certain product categories are not available due to regulatory restrictions.
We are in the process of verifying the operator's status in this jurisdiction. Information may be incomplete.
Update Process
The gambling regulatory landscape changes frequently. Here's how we maintain accuracy:
Regular Reviews
Priority markets and status records are reviewed on a scheduled cadence. A visible date is shown wherever a record has completed the current evidence migration.
Regulatory Monitoring
We monitor official regulatory announcements and update our database when changes occur.
Transparent Dating
Every listing shows when it was last verified so users know how recent the information is.
