The short answer: where to check a Portuguese gambling licence

Use the SRIJ “Entidades licenciadas” page. It is the official consumer-facing directory for online gambling permissions in Portugal. The page listed 19 brands when Atlas rechecked it on 8 September 2026.

The page does more than list brand names. Each entry can identify the approved website, operating company, authorised game categories, licence numbers and later amendments. That makes it substantially stronger evidence than a footer badge or an operator’s marketing page.

4

Why product scope changes the answer

Each step must preserve the jurisdiction, product, entity, source and review date.

What changed in the August 2026 register check

Retabet and Vincino received Portuguese licences on 24 July 2026. Retabet Portugal, S.A. holds licence 033 for fixed-odds sports betting and licence 034 for gaming machines. Play Jogo Limited holds licence 035 for games of chance under the Vincino brand.

The current register now shows retabet.pt without the earlier forthcoming label. Vincino.pt is still marked as forthcoming. Atlas could not independently test Retabet's consumer availability because the domain returned an access-denied response during this review, so the register change is recorded without treating it as proof that every visitor can use the site.

A five-field SRIJ verification workflow

Start with the exact site the player intends to use, then reproduce the check against the official entry. Do not stop when the brand name appears.

  • Brand: confirm the consumer-facing name matches the SRIJ entry.
  • Domain: confirm the exact Portuguese website is listed.
  • Entity: record the legal company named as the operator.
  • Product: verify whether the permission covers betting, casino games, poker, bingo or the specific game type.
  • Licence: read the licence number and amendments, including suspension or renewal notes.

Why product scope changes the answer

Portugal distinguishes between betting and games of chance, and individual entries can contain several licences and amendments. A business that appears in the directory should not automatically be described as authorised for every gambling product.

The official directory also records temporary suspensions for particular activities. Nossa Aposta and Luckia have sportsbook activity marked as temporarily suspended while casino permissions remain listed. Moosh's entry says that all activity is temporarily suspended. A careful status therefore combines the current licence entry with the product the user is asking about.

Brand, company and domain are different records

A familiar brand can be operated by a company whose legal name is not obvious to a consumer. The approved Portuguese domain may also differ from international versions of the same brand.

This separation matters when investigating cloned websites or unsupported claims. A valid SRIJ entry for one entity and domain does not validate a different domain merely because it uses similar branding.

What “not found” in the SRIJ register means

If a brand, entity or domain cannot be matched, record the result as not listed in the current SRIJ directory and preserve the date of the search. Before drawing a stronger conclusion, test alternative legal and trading names and check whether the product is offered under another approved domain.

For Atlas purposes, “not listed” is an evidence status, not a shortcut for a universal legal conclusion. The legal assessment still depends on the Portuguese framework, the service being offered and the exact facts.

How often to recheck a Portuguese licence

Recheck before publishing a recommendation, after a brand or domain change, and whenever the SRIJ page records a new licence, amendment or suspension. Atlas assigns this market guide a 30-day review cadence because the official directory is actively maintained.

Common mistakes in Portuguese licence checks

Do not search only for the international brand name and assume that a result applies to every domain. The Portuguese directory is organised around a locally approved website and a named operating entity.

Do not merge casino and sportsbook permissions. The same entry can contain distinct licences, amendments and suspension notes. Finally, do not rely on a screenshot of an old register entry when the live SRIJ page is available.

  • Using a .com domain when the approved service is on a .pt domain.
  • Ignoring the legal entity behind the brand.
  • Treating one licence number as permission for every product.
  • Missing a temporary suspension or later amendment.
  • Reporting a result without the date of the official check.

What a defensible evidence record looks like

A useful research note states the brand, exact domain, operator entity, licence number, authorised products, relevant amendments, official URL and check date. It also preserves any limitation, such as a product-specific suspension.

That record can support an Atlas market relation, an editorial claim or a compliance review because another researcher can reproduce it. A note that says only “licensed by SRIJ” cannot.

Frequently asked questions about SRIJ licences

Is every brand on the SRIJ page authorised for both betting and casino? No. Read the products and licence records in the individual entry. Does a Portuguese licence cover other countries? No; the evidence concerns the Portuguese market and approved local service. Is a missing brand automatically illegal? A missing match is a strong reason not to describe it as licensed, but the research record should still say what was searched and when.

Can a licence be temporarily suspended? Yes. The directory can identify temporary suspension at activity level, which is why the live entry matters more than a static list of brand names.
