Sweden gambling licence register: verify a company and website

Spelinspektionen states that its licence register contains all operators with a valid Swedish licence or permit. For companies licensed for online gambling or betting, the register also publishes the web addresses connected to their player-facing services.

That combination makes the register more useful than a generic list of brands. It can connect a legal company, a current permission and a specific website, which is the minimum evidence chain needed for a defensible Swedish market conclusion.

Copy the hostname used by the player and search the live register. Do not start from a group portfolio or an international homepage: a licence held by one company does not automatically cover every brand, mirror domain or sister company in the same group.

If the hostname is absent, record that result and search the legal entity disclosed in the site terms. A company-only match remains partial until the Swedish register connects the relevant consumer website to the licence holder.

The company named in the register can operate several brands and web addresses. Preserve the exact legal entity, the trading brand used by the player and every matching domain as separate fields rather than compressing them into one label.

The current Atlas sample illustrates the risk. Entain Operations Limited can appear as a licence holder, yet a separate brand-level review may still find no current bwin consumer domain. That is a bwin-domain finding, not a claim that the group has no Swedish permissions.

Swedish law separates commercial online gambling from betting. Commercial online gambling covers products such as online casino and online bingo, while betting is licensed through its own activity category. A result must therefore preserve the product being checked.

A sportsbook permission cannot be used as evidence for online casino or poker, and a casino-domain match does not prove that every betting product under the same brand is authorised. Read the activity shown in the current record.

A Swedish licence is time-bound. The current Unibet record, for example, names Kaprifol Services Limited and displays a term from 23 October 2025 to 22 October 2030. Spelinspektionen advises licensees that want to continue operating to apply for renewal before expiry; a timely application can keep the existing licence valid while a new decision is pending.

Record the validity period and review date rather than assuming that an older announcement remains current. A launch article, logo or cached licence page is weaker than the live register result.

A Swedish licence places the operator under Swedish rules and Spelinspektionen supervision. Official consumer guidance highlights responsible-gambling duties, Spelpaus self-exclusion, deposit limits, self-testing and restrictions on bonuses and marketing.

The authority also warns that holding a licence is not a guarantee that a company will always comply with every rule. The licence proves a current regulatory permission; complaints, sanctions and supervisory decisions require separate checks.

The live register answers whether the entity and website hold a current permission. It does not show that the operator has never faced supervision. On 15 June 2026, Spelinspektionen reported two court outcomes that demonstrate why the enforcement record must be read independently.

The Administrative Court upheld the warning and SEK 12 million sanction against Videoslots for most of the reviewed duty-of-care findings. In a separate case, the court overturned Spelinspektionen's decision against Roar Vegas. A balanced profile must preserve both the company-specific outcome and the court result instead of treating a licence as a clean-history certificate or an initial sanction as necessarily final.

Spelinspektionen describes gambling directed at Swedish consumers without the necessary licence as illegal. Indicators can include Swedish-market design, local payment methods, Swedish currency, a .se domain or marketing aimed at Sweden, but the authority assesses the facts of each case.

For editorial work, absence from the licence register should first be recorded as a precise no-match. A stronger illegality statement requires evidence that the service is directed at Sweden and falls within the authority’s enforcement approach.

A strong research note should let another editor repeat the same check without relying on the article author’s judgement.

Repeat the search using the hostname, brand, disclosed entity and known Swedish trading name. Preserve spelling variants and the check date. If the company appears but the domain does not, call it a partial company match and keep the brand-domain conclusion unresolved or not listed.

Never turn a Sweden-specific no-match into a global allegation. The same brand may have a valid permission in another jurisdiction or may operate through a different legal entity there.

Does a Swedish licence cover every group brand? No. Match the company and exact website. Is a regulator logo enough? No. Open the live register. Does a betting licence prove casino permission? No; keep the product categories separate.
