Spelinspektionen’s register covers every active licence and permit and publishes approved web addresses for online-gambling and betting licensees. Atlas matches the consumer domain as well as the legal entity.

Online and betting licence scope

Commercial online-gambling licences cover online casino, bingo and simulated slots; betting licences cover online or agent-based betting. The 2026 application fee is SEK 230,000 for either category or for both when applied for together.

22% gambling tax on proceeds

Licensed commercial gambling is taxed at 22% of taxable gambling proceeds. This is the difference between stakes and payouts for gambling offered in Sweden. Public-benefit gambling is treated separately.

Deposit limits and duty of care

Online-casino players must set daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits before play. A licensee must contact a player who sets a monthly limit above SEK 10,000, monitor behaviour and intervene when needed under its duty of care.

Spelpaus checks via prescribed API

Since 1 August 2026, licensees required to register players must use their assigned credentials for Spelpaus checks, including checks performed by a contractor. Direct-marketing checks use the marketing APIs; registration and login checks use the login API. A check is complete only when it returns whether the person is self-excluded.

Moderate marketing standard

Gambling marketing must be moderate, may promote only Swedish-licensed gambling and must not target people under 18 or directly target anyone who has self-excluded.

Expanded prohibition on credit-funded play

Since 1 May 2026, licensees and gambling agents must not allow or facilitate credit-funded gambling and must take appropriate preventive measures. Online operators must block credit cards and address credit-funded e-wallet payments. The regulator does not require an investigation of every payment, but known credit-funded stakes must be refused. Limited exemptions may apply to public-benefit lotteries.
