Authoritative licence check

The KSA states that the Kansspelwijzer is the only correct overview of granted remote-gambling licences and lets consumers search by company, website, app or licence number.

Player exclusion

Licensed online operators check a player’s CRUKS code whenever the player participates; a CRUKS match prevents access during the exclusion period.

2026 renewal cycle

The first remote-gambling licences issued in September 2021 reach the end of their five-year terms on 1 October 2026. Incumbents must apply for a subsequent licence under the 2026 policy rules. Applications require an exit plan, a change-reporting document and a Wwft risk analysis; addiction-prevention and advertising policies are reassessed and the control-database integration is tested again.

Five-year term and new application

A Dutch remote-gambling licence runs for five years and cannot be extended. An incumbent whose licence is ending must submit a new application; the 2026 framework adds requirements including an exit plan and stronger change-reporting controls.

Affordability-check thresholds

Online operators must perform an affordability assessment when a player wants to deposit more than €300 net per month if aged 18-24, or more than €700 if aged 24 or over. The assessment must use sufficient, correct and verifiable information.

Online sponsorship ban

Remote-gambling operators may not sponsor sportspeople, teams, clubs, competitions, shirts or other promotional material. The transition period ended on 1 July 2025, and the prohibition forms part of the ban on untargeted online-gambling advertising.

2026 gambling-tax rate

The Dutch Tax Administration records a gambling-tax rate of 37.8% from 1 January 2026. The liable party and taxable base depend on the type of game and how it is organised, so the rate should not be applied without product-specific tax analysis.
