Betway licensed countries: current evidence and market limits

Betway operates across several regulated markets, but there is no defensible universal list where the brand is simply legal or illegal. Atlas currently holds 10 Betway market relationships. Seven are supported by current licence evidence, Portugal is recorded as licence revoked, Kenya is not listed in the particular official table checked, and Austria remains under review because the public evidence does not resolve the exact provincial permission.

Those 10 records do not describe identical services. Great Britain supports remote betting and casino activity. Germany's whitelist supports sports betting at betway.de, not online casino. Ireland's new GRAI record is specifically for remote betting. Portugal moved in the other direction: its former licences were revoked at the operator's request in January 2026.

Betway is the consumer brand; the licence holder is the legal entity. The British Gambling Commission, Germany's GGL, Ireland's GRAI and the Malta Gaming Authority each name Betway Limited. Spain instead publishes Betway Spain, S.A. Portugal's revocation concerns GM Gaming Limited. Ghana's public table is organised by the BETWAY trade name and operation type rather than presenting the same entity-and-domain detail as the European registers.

This is more than corporate housekeeping. A Betway Limited record in Britain cannot prove the status of betway.es, and a Betway Spain, S.A. record cannot be carried into Germany. The strongest check begins with the local authority and then connects the company, brand, domain and product shown in that authority's own record.

The Gambling Commission's current business register names Betway Limited under account 39372. Its licence summary marks remote casino, general betting on real events and general betting on virtual events as active. The associated domain page lists betway.com and several Betway subdomains as active. Together, those pages provide a useful chain from entity to licence activity to consumer domain.

That evidence is specific to gambling supplied to consumers in Great Britain. It should not be translated into a claim that the same account authorises the brand in the rest of Europe or Africa. Even within the register, a domain match and an active activity answer different parts of the verification question; both need to be checked.

Spain's DGOJ profile identifies Betway Spain, S.A., the betway.es domain and two general licence groups: betting and other games. It also names specific permissions for sports and horse-race fixed-odds betting, other fixed-odds betting, blackjack, roulette and slots. The page records recent technical-system approvals and licence extensions, including a September 2025 approval involving betting and slots.

Germany is narrower. The live GGL whitelist names Betway Limited, betway.de and sports betting, with a follow-on permission date of 23 December 2022. Atlas does not turn that row into a German online-casino claim. This difference is exactly why an operator-level label such as licensed can mislead when the authorised product is omitted.

Ireland's GRAI record A-0524 names Betway Limited, the trading name Betway and remote-betting licence GRAI-0524-RB-26-0001. The product boundary is explicit: remote betting. GRAI's own B2C guidance says that this licence type authorises betting by remote means, including pool betting.

The record should not be expanded into an Irish online-casino conclusion. Ireland is introducing its new framework in phases, and the published licence type is the safe unit of analysis. Atlas therefore records sportsbook evidence for this relationship and does not infer a broader casino permission from the international brand's product range.

The Malta Gaming Authority's dynamic seal names Betway Limited and marks B2C licence MGA/CRP/130/2006 as licensed. It identifies Type 1 casino services and Type 2 fixed-odds betting, and publishes several associated website URLs. This is solid Malta evidence for the named entity, licence, services and domains.

Atlas also records Betway Alderney Limited as a Category 1 holder, while the public record does not publish a website for that entity; a separate Cadway Limited entry is associated with betway.ca. These are regulator records, but neither Malta nor Alderney automatically grants permission to target Great Britain, Germany, Portugal or any other national market. Local authorisation still decides the local result.

Ghana's Gaming Commission currently publishes two BETWAY rows: sports betting and online casino, both issued on 1 January and expiring on 31 December 2026. An official Commission report also identifies Sports Betting Group Ghana Limited as the operator of Betway Ghana, adding entity context that the licence table itself does not expose.

Kenya requires more restraint. Atlas did not find an exact Betway trading-name or consumer-domain match in the clean 2025/26 regulator table reviewed on 3 August. A later refresh was not used because the official page was serving inconsistent, injected third-party content. The resulting not-listed label means only that no exact match was found in that dated table; it is not a declaration of illegality in Kenya or elsewhere.

Portugal is the clearest negative change in the current footprint. SRIJ announced on 9 January 2026 that the Gaming Commission had revoked licences 021 and 022 issued to GM Gaming Limited. The decision was made on 5 January following a request from the operator and covered online gambling at betway.pt.

The authority then states the consequence directly: the entity is no longer authorised to offer online gambling in Portugal. This is a licence-revoked status, not an enforcement finding and not evidence of misconduct. The reason and the effective date matter because an older licensed-operator list or a cached affiliate page can now give the opposite answer.

Austria regulates sports betting through nine provincial laws. Atlas confirmed the Salzburg licensing framework but did not locate a current public provincial decision or register entry that joins the Betway brand to a legal entity, product, domain and licence term. The relationship therefore remains under review rather than being labelled licensed on incomplete evidence.

That gap is not proof that Betway lacks permission in every Austrian province. It means the public material reviewed does not support an Austria-wide conclusion. Preserving the uncertainty is more useful than filling the row with a confident but untraceable answer.

Start with the jurisdiction and product you actually need to verify. Open the current regulator register, then search the brand, known legal entities and exact domain separately. Record the licence or account number, activity, status, term and review date. Where the authority splits casino, betting, poker or lottery into separate datasets, check the relevant product register rather than relying on the company name alone.

If no exact match appears, record the register and date searched. Do not substitute a Malta licence, website footer, search snippet or app-store availability for local evidence. The Atlas Betway profile, country pages and licence checker provide discovery paths, but the official source should be reopened immediately before any legal, compliance, editorial or commercial decision.

They are deliberately separated by jurisdiction, entity, domain, product and licence so that a strong record in one market cannot disguise a revocation, missing match or narrower product permission in another.

Atlas reconciled the 10 relationships with the cited official evidence on 29 August 2026 and will review this high-risk operator guide again within 30 days. A licence renewal, revocation, enforcement action, domain change or material register update triggers an earlier review.
