The short answer

  • Atlas currently records 14 Bwin market relationships: 12 matched to licence evidence, Sweden recorded as not listed in the reviewed brand-and-domain register, and Austria held under review.
  • Bwin is a consumer brand. The company, approved domain and product scope differ between markets such as Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Ireland.
  • A sportsbook result does not prove casino or poker permission. France is recorded for betting and poker, Ireland for remote betting, while other markets have different product evidence.
  • A Bwin page loading in a country is not proof that local play is authorised. The relevant regulator record and its date control.

This is an evidence ledger, not a promise of account acceptance, local product availability or commercial recommendation. Open the live authority record before relying on a conclusion.

The short answer: Bwin does not have one worldwide legal status

Bwin is recorded in 14 Atlas market relationships, but those records are not interchangeable. Twelve have a licensed finding, Sweden is not listed in the particular brand-and-domain register reviewed, and Austria remains under review because the available provincial framework did not produce a current Bwin decision or register entry. That is an evidence map, not a universal availability list.

The useful question is therefore not simply whether Bwin is legal. It is whether the relevant authority connects the local Bwin brand or domain to a named entity, a permitted product and a current regulatory record in the specific place a reader is asking about.

Each step must preserve the jurisdiction, product, entity, source and review date.

Why the legal entity changes from one market to another

Regulators license companies and activities, not a logo in the abstract. Portugal lists Gobet-Entretenimento, S.A. for bwin.pt. Spain lists ElectraWorks Ceuta, S.A. for bwin.es. France records B.E.S. SAS for bwin.fr, Italy connects bwin.it to Eurobet Italia S.r.l. and concession 16013, and Germany names bwin (Deutschland) Limited for bwin.de.

Those records should stay separate. A company listed in one country does not give the same company, domain or product permission elsewhere. This is particularly important with international groups, where one brand can sit above several locally licensed entities.

Portugal and Spain show why the domain and product matter

Portugal's SRIJ currently names Bwin, bwin.pt and Gobet-Entretenimento, S.A. It lists licence 002 for fixed-odds sports betting and licence 006 for named games of chance, with the published amendments attached to each licence. Those two licence lines are the relevant local evidence; a generic international Bwin homepage is not.

Spain's DGOJ lists ElectraWorks Ceuta, S.A. under the commercial brand Bwin and shows bwin.es among the approved domains. The same operator record lists general betting and other-games licences, followed by sports betting, poker, roulette, slot-machine and blackjack permissions. The Spanish detail is broader than a bare statement that the brand is licensed.

A Bwin sportsbook record does not automatically include casino or poker

Bwin's product evidence changes by country. France is recorded for sports betting and poker through B.E.S. SAS, while Ireland's GRAI record is a remote-betting licence for ElectraWorks Limited and lists Bwin as a trading name. That Irish record should not be stretched into casino or poker evidence.

Germany's whitelist is another useful contrast: its Bwin relationship identifies sports betting, virtual slot games and online poker. A writer or reader should preserve those categories rather than use a single word such as casino to cover every regulated activity.

Ontario has a separate regulated Bwin record

The iGaming Ontario directory was rechecked on 7 September. It names ElectraWorks Maple Limited and lists on.bwin.ca for casino, poker and sports betting. The directory reports 49 operators and 84 gaming websites, accurate as of 1 September 2026.

This is a local Canadian record. It does not alter the entity or product conclusion in European markets, but it does show why operator coverage must be refreshed from live market directories rather than copied from an older country list.

Evidence summary

named primary sources

Last editorial review: 2026-09-07. Review target: every 30 days.

Atlas currently records 14 Bwin market relationships: 12 matched to licence evidence, Sweden recorded as not listed in the reviewed brand-and-domain register, and Austria held under review.

Bwin is a consumer brand. The company, approved domain and product scope differ between markets such as Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Ireland.

A sportsbook result does not prove casino or poker permission. France is recorded for betting and poker, Ireland for remote betting, while other markets have different product evidence.

The visual summary does not replace the linked regulator records below.

What the Sweden finding means

The Swedish register review did not find a bwin-branded consumer domain in the current commercial-online and commercial-betting dataset checked on 31 August. Atlas records that result as not listed for the brand and domain examined.

It does not mean that no company connected to a wider group has a Swedish licence, and it does not establish Bwin's status outside Sweden. This distinction is deliberate: a corporate-group match cannot be silently reassigned to a different player-facing brand.

Why Austria remains under review

Austria does not produce one simple national Bwin answer in the available research. The official Salzburg material confirms that sports betting is licensed under nine provincial laws, but Atlas did not locate a current public provincial decision or register entry that matched the Bwin brand with a defined product, domain and term.

The correct outcome is under review, not a claim that Bwin is authorised throughout Austria and not a claim that it is unlawful throughout Austria. The record should change only when a stronger, local match is available.

How to check Bwin in a specific market

Start with the exact country and product. Open the relevant regulator register, then search the consumer domain as well as Bwin and the legal entity named in local terms or in the existing record. Confirm the activity, licence or account identifier and any expiry or renewal information before treating the result as current.

  • Use the local Bwin domain, not only bwin.com.
  • Match the legal entity published by the local authority.
  • Keep sportsbook, casino and poker permissions separate.
  • Record the regulator URL and the date checked.
  • Treat a no-match as specific to the register and market searched.

What this guide does not establish

This guide does not test registration, geolocation, identity verification, payment methods, promotions, withdrawals or customer support. It also does not recommend Bwin or rank it against another operator. Those are separate questions that require different evidence and, for experience claims, a documented testing protocol.

Regulatory records also change. A live regulator page, licence amendment, expiry or enforcement decision can supersede this article. Atlas will refresh this high-risk guide within 30 days and earlier when a material source changes.
